Hemorrhoids from taking melatonin?

when my boyfriend started taking melatonin, he began to develop hemorrhoids. he's a very healthy and active 28 year old guy, so nothing else would interfere with his health. as soon as he stopped taking melatonin, his hemorrhoids disappeared. how is that possible? it doesn't list hemorrhoids as a side effect of taking melatonin.
