I used to have windows vista and now I have some other windows programme, what's happened?

Well, since you are in JOE (jolly old England), look around for a live cd of Ubuntu 10 or Mint 9. Put one in your cd drive and give it a try. If you decide you like it- then just install over Win 7 and you will like it much better.
