Why is it that some genius is associated with madness?

It is because they think differently and definitely ahead of any other people. Others can't grasp what a genius says except perhaps a genius of the same level. Of course it is not the same for all geniuses. Those who are treated as mad are I think the ones who can bring drastic changes to this world.
