Does stacking a team in the nba really ruin the point of the whole "team" concept?

The heat have just destroyed the eastern conference with their little ploy, as did the celtics and the lakers are now going out of their way to aquire dwight howard. I never liked the lakers, but alot of their guys were made through smart trades (even though their 94$mill in salary) and drafting which is what I like. But if they go out and try and get dwight, does that mean their essentially doing what the heat are doing. I mean they already got pau kobe bynum odom (2 of which were drafted, 1 was a good trade, 1 was a bad trade we all know about that) Isnt putting dwight on their team just ruining the whole thing... Then again they'd probably have to scrap at the minimum bynum and odom right?
